Gary Neville slams talk of Hodgson rift

Yet when I look down the runners and riders who are being touted to succeed Hodgson now, a few candidates stand out for me.

The salary of England managers has always been a divisive subject.

July 30, 2016 will mark 50 years to the day since Bobby Moore captained England to World Cup glory with a 4-2 win over West Germany at Wembley in 1966.

The Football Association was so concerned about high jinks at the team's base in Chantilly that it asked the £500 ($893)-a-night Auberge du Jeu de Paume to remove its chandeliers before the players arrived or risk them being smashed.

But the irony of the situation now is that Hodgson was actually let down by the players, who gave arguably England's worst performance in a tournament when losing to Iceland.

"Ideally, as a proud Englishman, you'd love an English manager", Lampard said in an interview with the BBC.

However, the former Chelsea midfielder still thinks his old England teammate has a lot to offer the national team.

American pulls stunning upset over at Djokovic at Wimbledon
The American was up 7-6 (6), 6-1 in the first two sets on Friday before play was suspended for the day due to rain. After two hours of shelter, Djokovic returned to grab a 5-0 lead and survive a blip before claiming the set, 6-3.

We think it's far too early to be having a serious discussion about the next England manager given the diabolical nature of the Three Lions' Euro 2016 exit.

"I think Wayne still has the pace, the ability and the knowhow to play as a striker, but the choice will obviously be between him and his managers".

"I've not had contact from the FA but if they did come then I would talk to them about whatever role they want".

The Guardian though have caused a stir, particularly with Neville, after they suggested that there was "friction behind the scenes" when it came to Hodgson and his backroom staff. He is experienced and great with players, so why not.

He is coming towards the end of his management career and I'm not sure he would want to be getting involved in such a high profile job at this stage.

Unsurprisingly, Gary Neville has hit back at the claims. We were just naive.
