Jamal Crawford goes back to Clippers

After the Clippers' season came to an end at the hands of the Trailblazers, Doc Rivers, who's also the GM of the team, indicated a preference to re-sign as numerous team's free agents as possible.

Durant would be leaving a stable, largely leak-free organization for one of the league's most spectacularly porous clubs if he went to the Clippers, though.

Additionally, there's concern with both Griffin and Paul long-term as both went out of the playoffs with injuries.

The Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly going to try pitching the prospect of a Big 4 when they meet Kevin Durant this coming weekend. Durant's max with the Clippers would come in around four years, $115 million, and Paul, Jordan, and Griffin will all make over $20 million per year in 2016-17. Jamal has definitely enjoyed his success with the Clippers and head coach Doc Rivers has publicly stated he would love to have his anchor on the bench back.

If that was all, the Clippers could still tend a maximum offer to Durant. If not, and the Clippers' off-season is further spoiled by Pierce's indecisiveness, a player that most fans already didn't like will become massively more unpopular. This would yield Durant a larger salary.

Buzzfeed reports that Michelle Carter will stand trial for involuntary manslaughter in the death of her boyfriend Conrad Roy . On Friday, the state's highest court ruled that the case should proceed and that a grand jury properly indicted Carter .

Sam Amick of USA Today reported Sunday that Crawford and the Clippers agreed to terms on a three-year contract worth $42 million. With those exceptions, the non-taxpayer mid-level and the bi-annual, could be needed to fill out the rotation.

And, then there's the problem of the 2017-18 salary cap (projected at $108 million for now), when the team would have to fit Paul, Griffin, Jordan and Durant under the new cap, which would again require some numerical gymnastics.

Rivers also met with the New York Knicks in free agency. "I'm happy with my decision", Rivers said about returning to the Clippers (via Shelburne).

The Clippers took their shot Friday, and soon, they'll know if they connected. If Crawford stays, they can keep their makeshift backcourt intact and maybe get one buy-low guy for one of the other holes.
