Record-Smashing Dory Is Disney's Latest Blockbuster

Walt Disney Co.'s long-awaited sequel "Finding Dory" set an opening record for an animated movie, topping the box office this weekend.
After thirteen years since Finding Nemo captivated the hearts of millions of viewers, Disney and Pixar finally released Finding Dory, which smashed box office records.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Kevin Hart finished second with their buddy comedy Central Intelligence, which still took in an impressive $34.5 million. The movie, starring Ellen DeGeneres, reportedly did well with adults as well as families.
Directed by Andrew Stanton ("Finding Nemo", "WALL•E"), co-directed by Angus MacLane ("Toy Story OF TERROR!"), and produced by Lindsey Collins (co-producer "WALL•E"), Disney•Pixar's FINDING DORY swims into theaters June 17, 2016. Third on the list now is Minions ($115.2 million), followed by Toy Story 3 ($110.3 million) and Shrek 2 ($108 million).

Not content to simply shatter records in North America, Pixar's "Finding Dory" topped the foreign box office, as well. And it's not the most intellectually ambitious film from the greatest studio of our age (that would be the mind-blowing Inside Out). The female audience powered this opening weekend, ' Dergarabedian commented. The film also recorded more viewers after 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday which suggests that parents and children would risk sleeping early just to watch the fish adventure. So far, the Universal total production has earned nearly 2.6 billion Yuan ($377.6 million) in local and global receipts combined.
