'Hour of justice for the American worker'

After Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto pulled out of next week's summit, Mr Trump said the meeting would have been "fruitless" if Mexico didn't treat the USA "with respect" and pay for the wall.

"We remain confident that the trade policy between our two governments will continue to support USA consumers' growing love of avocados", the Avocado Producers and Exporting Packers Association of Mexico said in a statement Friday.

"Singling Mexico out could raise costs for consumers in OH and around the country and result in us losing good export jobs", Portman said. The CRFB insisted the wall's costs be paid for up front, rather than spread out over 10 years, as Congress often does with one-time spending.

"A nation without borders is not a nation", Mr Trump said. Mexico has consistently said it will refuse to pay for the border wall.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto announced the cancellation of his first meeting with Mr. Trump, which was scheduled for next week, on Twitter.

It comes after Mr Trump signed an executive order to build a 2,000-mile wall along the border with Mexico and insisted the U.S. neighbour would "absolutely 100%" pay for it.

Experts have voiced doubts about whether a wall would actually slow illegal immigration, or if it is worth the billions it is expected to cost.

Speaking to Congressional Republicans at a retreat in Philadelphia later on Thursday, Mr Trump said meeting the Mexican president would have been "fruitless" if they refused to treat America "with respect".

Lawmakers are pressuring Pena Nieto to scrap Tuesday's talks in Washington after Trump made good on his campaign pledge to quickly order the construction of the barrier.

But Trump has been reluctant to describe how the United States would pay to build the wall, outside of saying he would make Mexico foot the bill.

Trump has also promised to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Can President Trump issue a tariff on his own?

Trump tweeted: "The US has a 60 billion dollar trade deficit with Mexico".

He said his government would do everything possible to protect the rights of migrants in the United States.

A statement from Pena Nieto's office echoed the USA one, saying that the countries agreed to "resolve their differences" as part of ongoing discussions about the relationship.
