Police Officers Shot In California Shootout

A police officer has died and another officer was wounded following a shootout with a suspected gang member Monday in California, PIX11 sister station KTLA reports.

The three injured were were taken to a hospital, Los Angeles County Fire Department officials said.

The shooting happened around 8 a.m., police officer John Scoggins told the Whittier Daily News.

Authorities investigate the scene where a police officer was fatally shot, and another wounded, in Whitter, Calif., on February 20. Police later found out that the auto the man was driving had been reported stolen.

Kevin Hall with Lexington-Fayette County Health Department says that the warmer weather may help slow the spread of the virus. While seasonal flu-related deaths of people older than 18 years of age are not reportable, those among children are reported.

Two Whittier Police officers and a suspect were wounded Monday in an officer-involved shooting.

"We're still looking into that", Corina said.

Both officers were wearing bullet-proof vests, Corina said. They were rushed to the hospital, where one of the officers died of his wounds. The other officer and the gunman were in stable condition. Investigators did not know why the suspect opened fire.
