10-nation ECO vows to combat terror at summit in Pak

Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov told the summit that construction work on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline had been started.
Radio Pakistan further quoted him, as saying that the summit will deliberate and decide on ways and means to augment cooperation in the areas of connectivity, trade, energy, tourism, investment, industry, economic growth, productivity, social self-aware and environment.
Hassan Rouhani said that ECO is important forum cooperation for the region and it would be helpful for promoting connectivity for development and prosperity of the region.
TRT World 's Hasan Abdullah is in Islamabad and has this update on the summit. Azerbaijan's president Ilham Aliyev condemned the growing Islamophobia and made it clear that this creed is a religion of peace and should not be linked to terrorism.
"The ECO region is rich in resources and capabilities". He asked the ECO countries to use Gwadar and the CPEC for economical trade of their goods to other countries.

He incorrectly suggested that there was a terror attack in Sweden last Friday, puzzling the Nordic country's leadership. Criticising Europe's handling of terrorism, he said that Americans could not let similar attacks happen in the US.

Erdoğan noted that despite the ECO being an economical organization, politics continue to constitute the main framework of the organization. He said economic activities are transferring from the West to East. It was a testament to Pakistan's commitment to act as a harbinger of positive changes and meaningful development in the region, the prime minister said.
The Prime Minister appreciated Turkey's continued support for the struggle of the Kashmiri people for their right to self-determination.
Prime Minister Sharif told Executive Vice Foreign Minister of China Yesui Zhang, who is visiting Islamabad for the summit, that plans for enhancing connectivity in the ECO region were "convergent with China's One-Belt-One-Road and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor initiative".
He said Turkey has carried out many large-scale transportation projects such as Istanbul's Marmaray, Eurasia Tunnel, Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, Osman Gazi Bridge, and high-speed rail lines, which have strengthened the transportation capacity of not only Turkey but also ECO members.
