Jacksonville State (20-14) wasn't supposed to be here either after going 8-23 last season.
The tournament gets into full swing Thursday, with the Final Four set for April 1 and 3 in Phoenix.
Interesting to see Villanova and Duke, the previous two national champions, as the top two seeds in the East Region. This season, he's the catalyst for a Winthrop team that is 26-6 and making its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2009-10. Adding to the severity of this drought, three of the Cavaliers' four wins since February 12th have been against ACC cellar dwellers Pittsburgh and North Carolina State.
In the committee room, Hollis said Duke entered the weekend as a No. 4 seed, and moved up considerably throughout its conference tournament run.

Duke had three Top 25 wins in the ACC Tournament, but we're considering the entire body of work. Villanova was previously a No. 1 seed in the Minneapolis Region in 2006 and in the East Region in 2015. "It becomes less because there's less time", he said. "They struggled away from home, and their non-conference schedule was not that hard yet they still struggled with that".
Dayton vs. Wichita State: Two outstanding teams that are well-coached.
