Today the latest version 8.0 of the Truecaller application were released and it is the biggest update for the app till date in terms of addition of features.
The partnership with Airtel will bring Truecaller app to feature phones in India, while a new Truecaller payments service has been announced in collaboration with ICICI bank. The said integration is now not live but will make its way to both Android and iOS in the coming months. The service will also be permission-based, which means users can choose to opt out of using Duo services at any time, NDTV news reports.
For Truecaller, an app that offers real-time caller ID and spam protection, the past two years have been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. From the Truecaller 8 app you can send pre-defined flash messages to your contacts quickly.
Back in August, Google says that its standalone video-chat app Duo will be getting audio calls soon. "With this Truecaller integration, we are able to bring a better video-calling experience to millions of new users".
The update includes features such as SMS inbox, Flash Messaging, Truecaller Pay and more.
Here's a quick look at the new features
These notification badges are the small numbers that you see on apps like mail and messages that show number of unread messages. And if you tend to let notifications pile up, the good news is that they will automatically time out with Android O .
Truecaller app users on Android will now be able to send and receive SMSes via Truecaller app.
The SMS filter will allow all Truecaller users to identify the sender of SMSs. Banks, however, need to be part of the UPI so that they can link their account to Truecaller Pay. Text messaging is now integrated into the Truecaller app. Mamedi said that in India Truecaller has identified 2.2 billion incoming calls per month, 568 million outgoing calls made from Truecaller per month, and 500 million spam calls identified by Truecaller per month. Zarringhalam also confirmed that the video calling feature would comply with the safest and the most efficient experience technologically possible. All feature phone users with Airtel mobile service can now use "Airtel Truecaller ID" to see who's calling.
Built on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for secure mobile payments, Truecaller Pay will allow users to create their unique Virtual Payment Address (VPA) within the app and instantly send or receive money using any UPI-supported bank in India. For this, the company has partnered with ICICI Bank. Truecaller and Airtel haven't however revealed whether any subscription charges would be levied on existing customers for availing this service.
Stockholm-based Truecaller, backed by Sequoia Capital, Atomico and Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers, has more than 150 million users in India.
