At least 1 dead after shooting near upscale mall in South Florida

A gunman opened fire inside the Equinox fitness center at the Shops at Merrick Park in Coral Gables around 1 p.m. Saturday, leaving one dead and two people wounded, police said.

No one was being sought in connection with the shooting, Perez said.

Police did not say who opened fire, or who was wounded and who was killed.

Jesus Reyes, a currency analyst who trains regularly at Equinox, said he was taking a shower there after his workout when he heard the gunshots.

Anais Michelle said she was walking into the mall with her mother when she saw people coming down from the third level, some crying about a shooting at the gym. Members of the gym dressed only in towels fled Equinox and took shelter in nearby stores. "This wasn't someone who made a decision to kill a bunch of people". The manager wasn't moving, said the witness.

Film academy rules ineligible documentary series like 'OJ'
The new addition to the ineligibility of multi-part or limited series will come into effect for the 90th Academy Awards. But the rules do not prohibit reasonable food or beverages being served at screening venues or adjacent locations.

At Yard House, a restaurant inside the mall, many patrons were outside dining or waiting for their lunches when police told restaurant employees to get everyone inside.

The shooting happened at the Equinox Fitness Club at the Shops at Merrick Park.

Alvaro Zabaleta of the Miami-Dade Police Department said in an email to news organizations that detectives were called to the scene of a shooting along South Lejeune Road in Coral Gables.

"They said run, and I ran", said the woman, who declined to identify herself to an AP reporter.

Tim Hartog, general manager of Yard House restaurant, said his business was on lockdown for a time.
