New England police arrest suspect in connection to murder of Vanessa Marcotte

PRINCETON, MA-An arrest has been made in connection with the murder of a Princeton jogger past year, according to multiple reports.

A suspect has been arrested in the murder of a missing jogger in Princeton, Massachusetts, Fox25 reports.

Sources told WBZ-TV (Channel 4) that Angel Cordero Ortiz, 31, was arrested overnight and was being held at the State Police barracks in Millbury. She was visiting her mother in Princeton, Mass. when the murder took place, she was out on a run.

The Worcester County District Attorney has scheduled a 2 p.m. press conference to reveal more details on the arrest of Vanessa Marcotte's alleged killer.

"Ms. Marcotte's family waited, waited and hoped", said Col. Rick McKeon of Massachusetts State Police.

DNA was obtained from Marcotte's hands during an autopsy. Early said they expect to add murder charges soon. DA Early said an alert state trooper in Worcester saw a man and a vehicle that matched the Marcotte murder suspect's description, and did a cheek DNA swab test that eventually led to Ortiz's arrest.

Her body was found in a remote, wooded area a half mile away later that evening. Police said her body was naked and partially burned.

Marcotte was an account manager for Google in New York City.

Authorities received thousands of tips on a dedicated line regarding Marcotte's case.

"There's also one other person I'd like to thank in this case, and that would be Vanessa Marcotte", Early said.

He will be arraigned in Leominster District Court on Tuesday.
