Arsene Wenger takes swipe at West Ham United for display against Liverpool

The Gunners had not won on their previous six visits to the venue, but took the lead thanks to Olivier Giroud tap-in before Alexis Sanchez combined with Mesut Ozil, who coolly tucked home to make it 2-0.

Arsene Wenger says that "some teams are on holiday" as the Premier League season draws to a close.

"You only have to look at the teamsheet and it had goals, creative players, it had everything really, and I felt we trusted that, we trusted our ability".

Wenger believes teams like Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are stronger in Europe because they can play at a diminished level domestically, after the Gunners crashed out at the last-16 stage to the German champions.

"It'll be a different season, because they will have to play on Saturday-Wednesday-Saturday".

They must rely on upsets elsewhere now to finish in the top four, but all they can do is get their heads down at the Emirates and do the business against a sorry Sunderland.

The English side who made it furthest in the continental competition - the next round - were Leicester, who are 11th.

It will be his third FA Cup final in four years and the 67-year-old pointed to that record when asked if he would take the Europa League seriously if Arsenal finished outside the top four and he stayed in place.

Germany on track for record-breaking growth streak
First-quarter GDP growth was at 0.6 per cent, this is faster than the October-December figure of 2016 which sat at 0.4 per cent. Europe's largest economy is widely forecast to maintain solid growth, despite global geopolitical and economic uncertainties.

"It's nice and hopefully they will be there against Sunderland cheering us on".

Arsenal kept the pressure on Man City and Liverpool for the remaining Champions League spots with a 4-1 victory at Stoke.

Arsenal's top scorer Alexis Sanchez faces a fitness test to determine his availability for Tuesday's Premier League clash against relegated Sunderland despite training with his team-mates on Monday.

And Wenger said: "Seventy-five points will be a decent total".

Wenger said: "The players have responded after a hard period".

"Chelsea have been extremely good and have won the championship but they won it two seasons ago too and it just shows you they have exceptional quality".

It remains to be seen whether Sanchez will still be at Arsenal next season as he has just over a year remaining on his current contract at the club.
