UN Security Council condemns North Korea's missiles tests

North Korea has released launch video of what is believed to be a unsafe and new long range ballistic missile, which it claims is capable of carrying a "heavy nuclear warhead".

Faso, R-Kinderhook, said the administration is appropriately applying diplomatic, economic and, to a lesser extent, military pressure on North Korea.

Council diplomats said the language was significant because China, North Korea's strongest ally, signed on.

KCNA said the new rocket was a "perfect weapon" which was "capable of carrying a large-size heavy nuclear warhead".

"The test-fire proved to the full all the technical specifications of the rocket. like guidance and stabilization systems. and reconfirmed the reliability of new rocket engine under the practical flight circumstances", KCNA said.

Council diplomats say the USA and China, the North's closest ally, have been working on a new sanctions resolution.

Another aerospace engineering specialist, John Schilling, said the launch appeared to demonstrate an intermediate-range ballistic missile that could "reliably strike the United States base at Guam" in the Pacific.

North Korea is believed to be developing an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and reaching the mainland United States.

North Korea fired a ballistic missile that landed in the sea near Russian Federation on Sunday in a launch the United States called a message to South Korea days after its new president took office pledging to engage Pyongyang in dialogue.

Six-party talks involving the North, the U.S., South Korea, Russia, China and Japan broke down in 2009.

The South Korean military is gathering and analyzing information. Pyongyang is threatening a sixth nuclear test. He said Moon told officials that dialogue would be possible only if "North Korea changes its attitude". The North did not specify what proper choice it had in mind. The missile firing took place Sunday, North Korea time, with the projectile landing in the sea between North Korea and Japan.

The North has successfully launched long-range rockets twice to put objects into space, although many experts believed it was some years away from mastering the re-entry technology needed to flawless an ICBM.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un attended the site of the test-fire of the new ground-to-ground medium long-range strategic ballistic missile, Hwasong-12, on Sunday.

Pyongyang has carried out two atomic tests and dozens of missile launches since the beginning of a year ago in its quest to develop a missile capable of delivering a nuclear warhead to the continental United States.

"This is an advanced missile, if their claims are true".

State media paraphrased North Korea's leader as saying that "the most ideal weapon systems in the world will never become the eternal exclusive property of the US", warning that "the USA should not. disregard or misjudge the reality that its mainland and Pacific operation region are in (North Korea's) sighting range for strike".

North Korea is under multiple sets of United Nations sanctions over its nuclear and missile programmes, which have triggered global alarm. He has also vowed to prevent North Korea from being able to hit the United States with a nuclear missile, a capability experts say Pyongyang could have some time after 2020.
