Disquiet, As Police Kill Tanker Driver, Mob Set Bank Ablaze In Apapa

The mob of over a hundred, mostly colleagues of the dead drivers, reportedly carried disused tires to set the bank on fire, targeting several computer sets, units of air conditioners, and ATM counters.
"The police man ran into sterling bank seeking refuge with the mobile unit attached to the bank, the angry mob then set fire to a vehicle within the bank premises which slightly affected the building".
The caller said hoodlums were trying to take laws into their hands by setting the bank ablaze following the shooting of a tank driver by a policeman attached to the bank during an altercation.
Reacting to the arson, Sterling Bank said the mobile policeman ran into it premises to avoid being mobbed, urging customers at the branch to patronage nearby branches.
It was gathered that a trailer driver wanted to park in front of the Diamond Bank since the entire Burma Road had been overtaken by indiscriminate parking by trailer and tanker drivers.
Olarinde Famous, spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, who confirmed the incident, said the trigger-happy mobile policeman had been arrested.
Banks in Apapa are shutting down and evacuating their personnel following the incident by protesting tanker drivers.

The tanker drivers who were angry chased the officer into the bank where he was been protected by security guards.
Angered by the death of their colleague, truck drivers joined by horde of hoodlums were said to have mobilised to the bank to demand the killer mobile policeman be released to them, a request turned by other policemen attached to the bank.
An eyewitness who spoke to NAIJ.com said the incident started when the tanker driver refused to give the police officer money which led to a heated argument and the officer fired by mistake. He ran into the premises of the bank to escape being lynched.
In the ensuing melee, the two banks, Diamond Bank and Sterling Bank were torched by irate truckers.
According to him, "The mobile policeman that killed Tunde was attached to Diamond Bank".
