Jordanian officials have called on Israel to remove metal detectors outside the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. In the days after the Amman shooting, Israeli authorities dismantled their controversial security measures at the Jerusalem site, leading observers to speculate that the speedy return of the Israeli guard and the subsequent concession by Israel were part of diplomatic horse-trading.

The crisis with Jordan is far from over.
The removal is meant to defuse escalating tensions between Israel and the Muslim world, including key security ally Jordan.

Meanwhile, the United Nations' Middle East envoy warned of an escalation if the crisis over the metal detectors was not resolved by the time of Muslim prayers on Friday.
This was one of many slogans chanted on Tuesday by thousands of Jordanians who attended the funeral ceremony for 16-year-old Mohammad Jawawdah, one of two Jordanians killed by an Israeli embassy guard on Sunday.
