Will Smith CONFIRMED as the Genie with THIS Brit star as Jasmine

The Aladdin remake follows a successful live-action retelling of "Beauty and the Beast" released earlier this year.

There has been much speculation about who will be taking on the roles in the Guy Ritchie remake of the 1992 hit film.

During Disney's D23 Expo presentation today, Disney production President Sean Bailey announced that Mena Massoud will star as Aladdin, while "Power Rangers'" Naomi Scott will play Jasmine.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "finding a male lead in his 20s who can act and sing has proven hard - especially since the studio wants someone of Middle-Eastern or Indian descent".

Free agent Rajon Rondo has reached agreement on a one-year deal with the New Orleans Pelicans , league sources tell The Vertical . Rondo met with Alvin Gentry and Dell Demps on Thursday, and again Saturday in Atlanta before committing according to reports.

"Aladdin will be played by a young actor named Mena Massoud", he stated. Scott will snuggle up to her pet tiger Rajah as Princess Jasmine. Massoud is a relative newcomer to Hollywood with only a few credits to his name. They'll be played by Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Will Smith, respectively. The actor boasts a number of TV roles, including voice roles for 2011's animated series The 99; he's also voiced a role in the recent Watch Dogs 2 video game.

Dan Lin is producing Aladdin through his company Lin Pictures, and Jonathan Eirich has been named executive producer.

Aladdin will begin shooting in August in London and the film has yet to cast the villainous Jafar, the squawking Iago, the monkey Abu, and the tiger Raja.
