Where central Pennsylvania hospitals landed on US News & World Report's annual ranking

In Ohio, Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center came in second, after the Clinic.

U.S. News & World Report says that UPMC Presbyterian in Shadyside is the 14th best hospital in the nation.

In national ranking of specialty programs, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center took the top spot in cancer care, while Cleveland Clinic ranked first for cardiology and heart surgery, and Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City ranked first in orthopedics. Under adult specialties, the hospital ranked 35 nationally for gastroenterology and 48 for orthopedics. U.S. News & World Report began publishing hospital rankings in 1990 to identify the best medical centers in various specialties for the most hard patients - those whose illnesses pose unusual challenges because of underlying conditions, procedure difficulty or other medical issues that add risk.
