She captivated the hearts of the people with her warm and down-to-Earth disposition and helped more than 90 charities around the world.
Diana entered the royal family and the public limelight at the young age of 20 and was married to Charles for 11 years.
She became internationally known after marrying Britain's Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, in 1981, and was referred to as the "the people's princess". He says Diana is a "constant reminder" for himself to strive to behave kindly towards other people.
John, who rewrote the words to his song "Candle in the Wind" to perform at Diana's funeral, shared a photo with the princess on Instagram this morning (above) along with the caption, "20 years ago today, the world lost an angel".
Rest in peace, Diana.
Charlotte, who inherited her middle name from her dad's mum, might have also inherited her paternal grandmother's talent for dance, as Diana was known to love dancing and even took ballet lessons.
