Watch this epic SpaceX rocket booster blooper reel go boom

SpaceX has published a hilarious "blooper reel" video that collates all of the firm's failed rocket booster landings. SpaceX rocket failures have happened thanks to faulty sensors, running out of fuel or oxygen too early, bad valves, no hydraulic fluid, and even the collapse of one of its landing legs. One particularly devastating scene shot in April 2015 shows a rocket landing slightly off-kilter causing it to fall slowly to the ground before instantly exploding on impact. It's just a scratch, ' regardless of the fact that it is in pieces. Another clip shows a fireball with the comment, "Well, technically it did land ... just not in one piece". Until the company's recovery efforts - unique among rocket makers launching spacecraft into orbit - these segments were discarded at sea.

Like most movies, the SpaceX blooper video ends on a positive note, showing the first successful drone ship landing and first successful pad landing.

In a tweet Thursday morning, Musk said, "Long road to reusability of Falcon 9 primary boost stage..."

But since the hard work of the team resulted in success, Musk will surely be proud to share this journey (with a mix of humor) with fans. Since then, the Falcon 9 has been flying at a breakneck pace (13 missions), and has landed its booster successfully in 10 consecutive attempts, including several with recycled boosters.

Since its founding in 2002, SpaceX's goal has been to significantly lower the cost of space travel, making destinations such as Mars achievable. It is among the few private and government ventures that aim to carry cargo and people to the Red Planet and other places beyond Earth's atmosphere.
