World's 'heaviest' woman dies in Abu Dhabi

The 37-year-old woman died due to numerous co-morbid conditions including heart disease and kidney dysfunction.

May 4: Eman Ahmed, who lost about 330 kilograms after undergoing weight-loss surgery in Mumbai's Saifee hospital, leaves for the United Arab Emirates for long-term treatment. Doctors had planned to treat Eman's acute issues - including her urinary tract infection, bedsores, rehabilitation, speech therapy - and provide her with psychological support within three months, as part of the first phase.

Her sister Shaima had learnt about Mumbai-based bariatric surgeon Muffazal Lakdawala and his expertise in bariatric surgeries and approached him for help early this year. "I knew it was too much to ask to make her able to walk, but the way her health improved here, I wished the same could happen to her (in Abu Dhabi)", he said. Doctors at the hospital said her condition had deteriorated over the past 24 hours, resulting in multiple organ failure. Doctors in India referred her to Burjeel Hospital, to be closer to her family in Egypt.

It is unclear whether Abd El Aty was undergoing a surgical procedure at the time of her death.

The Heavyweight woman from Alexandria left Mumbai hospital with a weight near 300 kgs to pursue further treatment in UAE in May. Her former doctor at Saifee Hospital had clashed with the woman's family during her hospitalization. But her sister Shaimaa Selim released a video which stated that Ahmed was not doing so well. After having the treatment in Mumbai, she almost loses 300 kg of weight.
