Jose Mourinho confirms Manchester United wanted Nemanja Matic, not Eric Dier

Pochettino claims that he saw Mourinho laughing and speaking in Portuguese with Dier after United's 1-0 win over Tottenham at Old Trafford last December.

But Pochettino wasn't happy that Mourinho had a long conversation in Portugeuse with his England midfielder.

Mourinho began his news conference: "Because I know the question I don't need the question, I'll answer".

Jose Mourinho said after the game on Tuesday he is not hopeful that either Paul Pogba or Marouane Fellaini will be ready to return.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly received assurances over summer signing Victor Lindelof after the former Benfica centre-back's poor start to life at Old Trafford.

"If you want to speak about his words I would be very disappointed if his words were different".

Shaw is out of contract in the summer, although United are set to activate an option to extend his deal until 2019.

With Eric Bailly and Jones available again Lindelof is not expected to be in United's starting XI for their crucial Premier League clash with Tottehham Hotspur on Saturday.

Mourinho admitted Shaw's chances of a recall were remote.

"The manager that helped him come to the first team, the manager that helped him develop in the best moment of his career, is the manager he doesn't forget, a manager he likes a lot, a manager that maybe one day he would like to be reunited again so for me the flawless words that show Luke Shaw's character in relation to the people he was happy with".

"Alli played but he didn't play against Real Madrid and I don't think it's a problem for them and they are a young, strong team, also physically, so I think they will be what they are, a very good team".

The United boss continued: "To play bad and lose matches I think can happen again, it happens".
