"We have lost three lives so far this morning in Harford County", Gahler said, adding that it wasn't a random shooting.
He identified the suspected gunman as Radee Prince, 37, and said he had a criminal history. Two people were taken to a hospital, one of whom had come out of surgery, he said.
Prince had worked for Advanced Granite Solutions for the past four months and had been scheduled to work on Wednesday, the sheriff said.
Officials say that the suspect has a criminal record and is armed and risky. The men told him someone was shooting and he asked if they had called 911.
He did not explain Prince's exact association with the business. "Certainly we consider him armed and risky", Gahler said.
