According to the film review aggregation site, the story of Christine McPherson's (Saoirse Ronan) senior year of Catholic high school has a 100 percent score after 170 positive reviews - "and counting", the site notes.
The previous record holder was 1999′s "Toy Story 2", which held a 100 percent score after 163 reviews.
The site aggregates dozens of reviews to determine a movie's score.
Lady Bird's coming of age is not new to cinema, yet Gerwig's version is light, fresh and modern, despite being set in 2002. She found out the news from her younger brother, who was "also slightly skeptical" that her film had bested an animated classic like Toy Story 2, she joked.
Black Friday sales push Jeff Bezos' net worth over $100bn
The stock got a lift from reports that online shopping on Thanksgiving and Black Friday jumped 18% compared with previous year . This rise added to the pocket of Amazon's CEO Jeff Bezos , to $100 billion, which is the highest achievement.
"It's fantastic", Gerwig told Vanity Fair, adding that her younger brother had told her the news and even he was "slightly skeptical" that her film had beat the animated movie. Walt Disney's Thor: Ragnarok actually has 277 "Fresh" reviews this year, along with 24 "Rotten" reviews, for an overall score of 92%, while fellow indie film The Big Sick received 233 positive reviews, and a score of 98%, earlier this year.
She continued, "That there has been such a warm reception is a dream come true".
Lady Bird is not the top movie of all time on the site, but none of the movies with a ideal score ahead of Lady Bird have received as many positive reviews. A film can't be "certified fresh" unless it receives a 75% or higher average with 80 reviews or more for films in wide release, including five reviews from Top Critics.
"It's incredible", she told Vanity Fair at the Gotham Awards red carpet on Monday night. "We are all on cloud nine and using our tomato emoji more than we ever thought possible". Lady Bird is an independent critical darling and an authentic comic crowd-pleaser that truly earns its must-see status.
