Martellus Bennett blasts Packers after first practice with Patriots

After getting cut by the Packers on Wednesday for "failure to disclose a medical condition" and signing with the Patriots on Thursday, Martellus Bennett gave his side of the story about how his time in Green Bay ended in a long, expletive-filled rant on Instagram.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on Friday that the Packers released Bennett because he has a torn rotator cuff.

In the offseason, the Patriots traded a 2017 fourth-round pick to the Indianapolis Colts for Dwayne Allen and a 2017 sixth-round draft pick as a replacement for Bennett.

Bennett, however, passed his physical with the Patriots on Friday and was on the practice field.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy acknowledged he advised Bennett seek additional opinions about his shoulder injury.

Bennett has 24 catches for 233 yards on the season.Bennett's contract has two years remaining for about $14 million.

Before he was cut, Bennett did not play in the Packer's 30-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football this week and was not expected to start against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

During the Packers' bye week he indicated on an Instagram post that he would likely retire after this season. He was claimed by the Patriots the next day.

During the bye week I got off anti inflammatories to clean my system and could really feel the pain. He did that and he went to a number of them. "I don't think it's right to judge that, either", McCarthy said.
