Ex-wife of murdered National Basketball Association player Wright arrested

Police in Riverside County, California, arrested Sherra Wright-Robinson Friday night on a warrant in connection to the 2010 killing of her ex-husband, former National Basketball Association player Lorenzen Wright.

Wright-Robinson has been charged with conspiracy, first-degree murder and criminal attempt first degree murder, Memphis police Director Michael Rallings said in announcing the charges Saturday.

Sherra Wright-Robinson was taken into custody at her Riverside, California home, according to Fox13.

"We looked through this case and we did one thing, we followed the evidence and the evidence led us to Billy Turner and Sherra Wright-Robinson", Memphis Police Major Darren Goods told the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

The arrest comes after Billy Turner, 46, was arrested on December 5 and charged with Wright's murder. Turner has pleaded not guilty. The Commercial Appeal reported Turner was a deacon at a church in Collierville, Tenn., in the Memphis area, where Wright's ex-wife was a former member. Deborah Marion, Wright's mother, told the Commercial Appeal that she believes Wright-Robinson killed her son over the insurance policy.

Born and raised in Memphis, he was a fan favorite thanks to his charity work with youth and his father's involvement as a coach in summer leagues.

The former National Basketball Association star was last seen alive on July 18, 2010 when he left the home of Sherra Wright.

Before he left, She said she overheard her ex-husband on the telephone telling someone that he was going to 'flip something for $110,000, ' the document said. Former NBA players and friends including Anfernee Hardaway and Elliot Perry attended a memorial service for Wright in the days after his body was found. And the 2015 Sports Illustrated-Fox Sports 1 joint investigation into Wright's murder had plenty to say about Sherra, including that Wright's assistant turned audio recordings of Sherra threatening him over to police.

Nine gunshots were reportedly heard on the 911 call.

Dispatchers said they didn't alert patrol officers or commanders because they couldn't confirm it came from their jurisdiction.

Police in Memphis reopened the investigation into Wright's slaying in 2016 after receiving new information. Wright, who was 34-years-old, was discovered 10 days after he was initially reported missing.

An autopsy report showed bullet fragments were lodged in Wright's skull, chest and right forearm.
