Rajon Rondo puts Celtics on blast for Isaiah Thomas' tribute

There was a growing controversy in Boston over showing the tribute to Thomas the same day the organization was retiring Pierce's jersey. But another former Celtics star, Paul Pierce, is pulling the plug on the whole idea because he wants that night to be all about him.

The Celtics initially had a plan that would have avoided this conflict altogether-that was to show the tribute video on January 3, when the Cavaliers made their first visit to Boston.

"I'm with Pierce, man", said Allen. Whether you are playing or not, you should have had your tribute then.

Rajon Rondo's Celtics Pride surfaced in a big way Wednesday (AEDT) as he rejected the idea the man who succeeded him in Boston merited a tribute video.

"This is the Boston Celtics", he added, per the Telegram & Gazette .

It's really unfortunate that what was supposed to be a wonderful celebration - and a gesture of goodwill after a brutal business-decision trade - for Isaiah Thomas has been tainted by the coincidence that it occurs on the same day as Paul Pierce's jersey retirement ceremony. "No disrespect to any other organization but [the Celtics] don't hang conference titles". He was an All-NBA selection last season and was third in the league in scoring while leading the Celtics to the Eastern Conference finals.

Several of Pierce's former Celtics teammates on the 2008 championship team were in Boston on Tuesday with the Pelicans, and said the Celtics shouldn't even honor Thomas.

Evidently, Rondo does not believe Thomas - centerpiece of a team that advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals - did enough to warrant such praise from the most successful National Basketball Association franchise in history. He pretty much dictated everything.' They let it happen because they felt sorry how [trading him to the Cavaliers] went down. [Pierce] struggled with the team.

After much discussion, the Celtics decided to make February 11 only for Pierce, putting off Thomas' video tribute.

In addition, ESPN's Chris Forsberg reports that an I.T. tribute won't come in playoffs if the two teams meet.
