West Ham leading race to sign Algeria's Islam Slimani

Newcastle finally look to complete their search for a new striker and the news comes after it was reported by Sky on their live transfer blog (10:55) that the striker would be signing on loan for the rest of the season.

West Ham United are reportedly leading the race to sign Algerian striker Islam Slimani from Leicester City before the transfer window closes tonight.

The Chronicle are reporting that Benitez has turned his attentions to Slimani after Daniel Sturridge rejected the Magpies in favour of a short-term move to West Brom and a deal for Feyenoord's Nicolai Jorgensen broke down over the Dutch clubs unwillingness to lower their £20 million valuation.

And the 29-year-old is on his way for his Newcastle medical.

A report claims that striker Aleksandar Mitrovic is to rejoin Anderlecht on loan from Newcastle after knocking back approaches from clubs in France and Germany.

West Ham had hoped to land the Algerian global, who cost the Foxes £29million when signing in the summer of 2016, on loan for the remainder of the season with an option to buy at the end of the campaign.

Newcastle are also understood to have agreed a loan deal for goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

The arrival the former Sporting Lisbon hitman is a huge boost for Rafa Benitez who has cut a frustrated figure all month looking to strenghten his squad to help avaoid relegation.
