The chairman of the NCAA selection committee, Bruce Rasumussen, has said the investigations played no part of the bracket-filling process. The victor likely will have to face No. 1 Villanova in the round of 32. UNC beat the Bulldogs a year ago in the national title game. They present an intriguing matchup as a team that is elite at playing a similar style to UVa.
U.Va. (31-2) is the tournament's top seed and will play in the South Regional, opening against the University of Maryland Baltimore County, a 16 seed, on Friday in Charlotte at approximately 9:20 p.m. The Orange played 18 combined Quadrant 1 and Quadrant 2 games and they only won seven of those contests.
The other Big 12 schools in the tournament are: Kansas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Kansas State, West Virginia and Texas.
Two years ago, Villanova came out on top of one of the most incredible championship games in the big tournament when Kris Jenkins hit the game-winning shot from beyond the arc to give the team their first title since 1985.
Kyle Fuller likely to remain with Chicago Bears after all
Although Amukamara has been a solid starter for the past six seasons, Fuller clearly was the better player in 2017. Fuller then seemingly had a falling-out with the Bears, who declined his fifth-year option.
The Kansas Jayhawks will be right at home in Wichita for the first round of the NCAA tournament as the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region. As part of a format overhaul, all 68 teams in the field were announced in the show's first ten minutes, dispensing with any drama about who would be left on the bubble. The Horned Frogs came in as an at-large team after finishing seventh in the Big 12. Two SEC Tournament wins restored the Tide's NCAA status. Out went Baylor, Louisville, and Oklahoma State. Kidding, mostly. Many folks were surprised that Arizona State made the tournament.
Kentucky coach John Calipari said Sunday that he loved the SEC getting eight teams into the tournament, proof the league finally is past the point of a loss costing programs dearly. "The games in November, December count the same as the games in February and March". But here's the thing: Any resume conversation about Oklahoma (5-11 road/neutral) had to start with the selection committee's Top-16 seeds reveal on February 11.
"You have a sense of pride", junior center Jack Salt said of being the No. 1 seed. Should FSU get in the dance and win this game they would potentially face No. 2 Cincinnati or No. 15 UC Irvine. The Friars are a risky No. 10 seed.
