NCAA Tournament notebook: Berry surpasses Jordan on UNC scoring list

Pinson and Joel Berry, who played their final games as Tar Heels, will graduate with a career 14-3 record in the NCAA tournament, two Final Four appearances and one national championship.

Of course we know, Williams didn't really write the letter. "He was saying stop being afraid".

INJURY LIST: Xavier freshman forward Naji Marshall didn't practice Saturday with a sore back that limited him in the Musketeers' opening victory.

After the game, Berry told reporters that statistic was something he'd make his children look up one day. That's the approach that I needed. "And as you saw, once we got going, we got going".

Williams made reference to that in his postgame press conference.

Robert Williams came up big for Texas A&M, contributing 13 boards.

"We were turning the ball over, and that gave them confidence in the first half", said junior guard Kenny Williams, who led the Tar Heels in scoring with 18 points, on 6-of-8 shooting beyond the arc. They have never advanced to the Elite Eight. "I feel it all the time, last game of the year, but I think I felt it more today than any other time".

2nd-round rematch for No. 1 seed Xavier, Florida State
They made the big dance and put up a great effort in a game they only had eight total players available. He injured in his back just two minutes into the season and missed the rest of the regular season.

North Carolina entered the game ranked 330th in the country in 3-point defense. The score was tied at 33 at the 3:43 mark, and the Tar Heels closed out on a 12-1 run to go into the half up nine points as Lipscomb missed its final six shots from the floor.

"You're ahead of Michael Jordan in something", UNC coach Roy Williams said after the game. He was rewarded for his efforts with the opportunity to stick A&M's name in the next round of the big, cardboard bracket at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte. North Carolina was able to bounce back and take care of yet another first-round game in the NCAA Tournament. I think if North Carolina plays their game by knocking down the outside shot, grabbing offensive rebounds and pushing in transition, they should advance to the Sweet 16.

Keeping with that trend, it's been a peculiar season in Chapel Hill. The past four years have been trying for the Tar Heels amid an NCAA investigation that seemingly had no end. A&M got noticeably more aggressive and confident and North Carolina forgot how to shoot. The Greensboro native almost recorded a triple double with 15 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. We've all seen the 15 beat the 2 before (Lehigh over Duke), but the chances of it happening is always not likely.

It didn't happen last season and some thought we are due.

Kenny Cooper scored the first basket in Lipscomb tournament history on a three from the right wing.

The second-seeded Purdue Boilermakers are moving on to the Sweet 16, with a 76-73 win over the No. 10 Butler Bulldogs on Sunday.

"It probably wasn't his top choice in who we wanted to play when the pairings came out", said Creighton coach Greg McDermott, vaguely referring to previous disciplinary issues.
