Riverdale star KJ Apa replacing Kian Lawley in The Hate U Give

According to Deadline, Apa will now step in to Lawley's role and will take part in a week of re-shoots for the film, in a move not unlike Christopher Plummer's replacement of Kevin Spacey in All the Money in the world.

K.J. Apa, the star of The CW's Riverdale, will replace disgraced actor Kian Lawley in Fox 2000's The Hate U Give.

The Hate U Give has yet to be given a release date.

The 20-year-old star replaced Lawley after he was sacked from the Fox film in February when a video of the actor making racial slurs surfaced online. The story follows her as she balances life in her predominantly black neighborhood and at her predominantly white private school. Not only was Lawley dropped from the movie, but his agency cut him loose, too - though the actor did apologize and claims to have learned from his mistake.

20-year-old Apa has been blazing a trail for himself in his five years in Hollywood, starring in the box office smash A Dog's goal and the hit CW adaptation of the Archie Comics-inspired Riverdale as Archie, which was just renewed for a third season. Still, the movie wrapped in November so it's not exactly ideal to go back and essentially redo major portions of the film months later.

Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, The Hate U Give is about a teen named Starr Carter (Amandla Stenberg), who witnesses her childhood friend's unjust shooting at the hands of a cop.

The vlogger added that he "respects Fox's decision to recast this role.as it is an important story, and it would not be appropriate for me to be involved considering the actions of my past".

The role of the boyfriend is a key component of "The Hate U Give", which also stars Regina Hall, Russell Hornsby, Algee Smith, Lamar Johnson, and Common.

Apa is best known for portraying Archie on Riverdale which was recently renewed for a third season.
