Yoenis Cespedes drives in three as Mets best Cardinals

Fans flocked to Citi Field today for the Mets' Opening Day matchup with the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday.

The Mets probably should have had more than the three runs they put up in the first three innings because Martinez hit one and walked five in that time. New Met Adrian Gonzalez plated fellow new Met Todd Frazier with a double to give the Mets a 4-3 lead with one out.

First baseman Jose Martinez threw a double-play ball into left field to help the Mets to a run in the first. He also walked six batters.

A single from Yoenis Cespedes then made it 7-3, and Jay Bruce capped the inning with a single of his own to make it 8-3. Center fielder Brandon Nimmo was also 2-for-3 with a walk; he was also hit by a pitch.
