Facebook announces India specific update to its users for stories

Earlier this year, Facebook rolled out its OLX-like platform, Marketplace, to users across India after testing the feature with a limited audience in Mumbai last year. Not only does it virtually eliminate the ephemerality that has characterized Stories up to this point, but it incorporates it more closely with Facebook's existing uses.

Hayes adds that Facebook is adding this feature in order to "help people share and connect with their friends and family on Facebook in ways that are authentic to them".

With this feature users will now have the ability to save photos and videos that you click through the Facebook camera app. For example, you will soon be able to save photos and videos that are taken by Facebook Camera, on Facebook; and not only on your phone.

Only the user can see photos that are saved to Facebook's Camera and stored on the cloud.

The first new feature is what Facebook calls Voice Posts. Hayes revealed that where Audio Stories is concerned, Facebook has got its learnings from WhatsApp, which has an Audio Messages feature that is quite popular in India.

Among other offerings, the Save Photos and Videos feature offers you a way to save photos and videos that you capture using the Facebook Camera. "We have no news to announce at this time", the company said. These memories can be seen right when you log into your Facebook account and help you save the storage on your smartphone.

Facebook introduces voice posts, story archive options for users in India
Facebook's new India-focused features: Voice posts, Stories archive, and save photos for later

Your Voice Posts on Stories will not be stored until you have archived the Story. The new features will be available first in India, home to some 27o million users, before being made available to everyone else in the world, TheVerge reported yesterday.

To save a photo or video, go to the Facebook Camera and then tap the Save button at the bottom.

Voice Posts will let users share an Audio message in their Story. Voice posts give people a new medium through which to express themselves.

The updated Stories also supports voice posts with a custom background instead of text, so you won't have to type to upload a voice post. "People thus want to keep these works of art and keep them for a longer time than a day", he added. "You can still find it in your Stories Archive if you have Archive turned on", explains Hayes.

Facebook is rolling out three new features for Stories. Facebook will give users the option of also turning off the archive so that the Stories are not saved.
