Indy Scott Dixon third as Australian Will Power wins Indy 500

Danica Patrick, in the final race of her career, crashed on lap 68.

Patrick, who said she was unsure exactly what happened during the crash, didn't complete her final NASCAR race, either, wrecking after 101 of a scheduled 200 laps in her final Daytona 500 NASCAR race in February.

Danica Patrick trudged out of the infield care center with her head down, mirrored sunglasses covering the disappointment in her eyes. My career, I've had so many wins, I've had so many poles but everyone talks about the (Indy) 500. Power then held off pole victor Ed Carpenter over the final few laps for the victory.

"I mean, today was really disappointing for what we were hoping for and what you want from your last race", she said, "but I'm grateful for all of it". She finished 23rd at Sao Paulo in 2011, before making the move to NASCAR after the 2011 IndyCar season.

The Indy 500 will start Sunday at 12:19 p.m. ET on ABC.

Penske was noncommittal about the plea but called Castroneves "one of our best guys".

Three-time victor Helio Castroneves also crashed, when his No. 3 Pennzoil Chevrolet spun outside of Turn 4 on Lap 145.

Iran sanctions could push gas prices higher
Industry experts say oil production is booming here in the U.S. , which should help keep the price of crude oil down. Following concerns President Trump could impose new sanctions on Iran later today, prices could go up even more.

Australian Will Power won the race with Ed Carpenter second.

The race lost another nostalgic storyline on the ensuing restart as veteran Castroneves, in his ninth attempt to capture a record-tying fourth Indianapolis 500 victory, crashed similarly out of Turn 4, he said, after misjudging the tires while racing in the top five.

Power took the lead with four laps to go when Oriol Servia and Jack Harvey had to pit for fuel.

"I'm going to sit up in the "North 40" (the north short chute) and drink beer like the rest of the fans that come out there", TJ said.

The two of them are among the most popular drivers in any style of racing, and now they're both retired.

Patrick's highest finish in the season standings was 24th (in both 2015 and 2016), and she had an average finish of 24.1 in her career.

The win marked Power's 30th on the IndyCar circuit. It seemed pretty late off the corner. "I've had a lot of good fortune here and did still have some this month, it just didn't come on race day".
