Jared Leto is reportedly in talks for Joker spin-off movie

Now it seems, the Joker - played most recently by Jared Leto in Suicide Squad - may get a movie all about his not-so-hysterical violent hijinks.

It's now unknown when this particular Joker film starring Leto would go into production, as the project has yet to hire a writer to pen the script. This marks the latest extension of the Suicide Squad universe after Warner Bros. previously announced that Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn would be getting her own movie. After the movie came out, Leto spoke extensively about how many of his Joker scenes were cut from the film. According to multiple reports today, Warner Bros.is moving forward with a film that Leto will also executively produce.

Warner Bros.is working on a standalone movie focusing on the 46-year-old actor's villainous character, Variety reports.

Fans were stunned with the reveal of Warner Bros.' plans to make a movie about Jared Leto's take on the Joker, making it one of many projects in development featuring the Clown Prince of Crime.

Instead, Phillips film would fall under a new "origins" banner which would be completely separate from the established DC cinematic universe. Joaquin Phoenix is in talks to play the character in that film but no overlap between the two is expected. Now both Leto and the studio are in search of a writer. It's also not clear what the movie would be about, but it should connect to "Suicide Squad" or the sequel in some way.

Jared Leto's version of the Joker in Suicide Squad was polarizing to say the least.
