Vladimir Putin Dismisses G7 Criticism As "Babbling", Calls For Cooperation

QINGDAO, China-China's President Xi Jinping warned against unilateralism and trade protectionism as he, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Central Asian leaders used a regional meeting to criticize US policy.

Speaking about the Skripal case, discussed at G7 summit, Putin noted, that "nothing new" was said on the matter, stressing that "it is necessary to stop chatter and move on to cooperation".

Putin said he shares Trump's expression of concern about a renewed arms race expressed in a March phone call.

Russian Federation was booted out of the then-G8 when it annexed Ukraine's Crimea four years ago and has done little since to win favour with the elite group of wealthy nations.

"The U.S. president has repeatedly said that it's reasonable to hold such a meeting", he said.

The last meeting between Trump and Putin was a brief exchange in Vietnam last November. Its member states also include four ex-Soviet Central Asian republics, Pakistan and India.

Earlier Sunday, Putin criticized the USA withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal in a speech at the summit.

Thanks to President Putin, bilateral ties have withstood the test of ever-changing global situation, Xi said, noting the deepened political and strategic mutual trust, great progress in pragmatic cooperation in various fields, and the enhanced friendship between the two peoples.

Addressing Sunday's summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Qingdao, China, Putin said a new agreement approved by the bloc spells out plans for joint anti-terror efforts for the next three years.

"Tomorrow we will hold the first summit of the SCO after its expansion and draw up a blueprint for its future growth", Xi said during Saturday's opening ceremony.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is hailing a planned summit of the United States and North Korea.

SCO nations may discuss the potential of a joint free trade area, she said, as China also pushes for participation in its Belt and Road global infrastructure project.

Xi and Putin and others pledged their support of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal from which President Donald Trump withdrew the USA last month. He added that Russian Federation will continue to honor the agreement, which offers Iran sanctions relief in exchange for Tehran curbing its nuclear program.

It is disappointing that the United States unilaterally withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal, said the statement, adding that China and Russian Federation will try their best to safeguard the deal and take note of the extreme importance of protecting the interests of all parties who engage in economic and trade cooperation with Iran from unilateral imposition of long-arm jurisdiction.

"We just had some vodka together and carved some sausage", he recalled, adding: "I have never had such a relationship or arrangement with any other foreign colleague".
