Let's try to navigate through this Beltway Hall of Mirrors.
McGahn has given lengthy statements to Mueller's team - some 30 hours worth spread out over at least three voluntary interviews during the span of nine months.
In classic pugnacious style, Trump's current lawyer in the Russian Federation investigation, Rudy Giuliani, accused Mueller of leaking the McGahn story as an act of desperation in the absence of evidence on which to hang charges.
Mr McGahn's own lawyer on Saturday said his client had "answered the Special Counsel team's questions fulsomely and honestly".
Trump seemingly responded to the Saturday's report tweeting: "I allowed White House Counsel Don McGahn, and all other requested members of the White House Staff, to fully cooperate with the Special Counsel".
"I think the best analysis would be that the Mueller team is panicking, they know they don't have a case, there was no collusion, there was no obstruction, they can't prove it, and they are trying to get the president to testify", Giuliani said on Fox's "Justice with Judge Jeanine" program.
Sunday morning, Trump continued tweeting, affirming he had "nothing to hide".
Trump's personal legal team has urged the special counsel to wrap up its investigations by the time of the mid-term elections this fall, and Trump has maintained his innocence through the duration of the inquiry, calling the Mueller investigation a "witch hunt".
Judge Blocks Release Of Blueprints For 3D Printed Guns
Amazon took down the website of a gun rights coalition Wednesday after they posted the blueprints for 3D-printed weapons online. A federal judge has blocked the release of designs meant to allow people to make their own firearms using a 3-D printer .
"I can't imagine that McGahn would still be White House counsel if he had produced any damaging information", said Mark Corallo, a former spokesman for the president's legal team.
So the White House counsel and his attorney came up with a strategy to cooperate as extensively as possible with the special counsel in order to prove that there was no wrongdoing by McGahn, the newspaper reported. "Rigged Witch Hunt!" he later tweeted.
Specific incidents mentioned in these conversations included moments surrounding Trump's decision to fire former FBI Director James Comey, and his reported preference that Attorney General Jeff Sessions oversee the investigation, according to the Times. Cohen later became Trump's attorney when he was a prominent NY real estate developer in the '70s and '80s.
Giuliani told NBC News that if Trump had considered trying to remove Mueller that would not be criminal. "So bad for America!"
Trump compared Mueller's investigation to the tactics employed by the late senator Joseph McCarthy, who alleged that Communist agents and Soviet spies had infiltrated the US government, accusing some of treason without evidence.
In the 1950s, McCarthy led a Cold War-era inquisition of alleged Communists who he claimed had infiltrated American governmental institutions.
Trump, in his tweets on Sunday, referred to Dean as a "rat".
A source close to the probe told Reuters they did not believe Mr McGahn had provided any incriminating information.
