Florida Walmart Shooting Suspect Not Expected to Survive

An argument Saturday at a Florida Walmart garden center ended when a man fatally shot his female partner several times, Ocala Police Department spokeswoman Meghan Shay said.

Police said David Johnson, 54, shot Carli Cronin, 30, around 2.30 pm at the Walmart at 4980 East Silver Springs Boulevard.

Police say a Walmart employee attempted to intervene in the dispute and called 911.

Ocala police have not yet released the name of the victim or the suspected gunman, but say that no one else was hurt in the shooting.

Authorities say a SWAT team surrounded a home a few miles (kilometers) away and evacuated neighbors before Johnson was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The suspect, who is 55, fled on a bicycle and was caught. He suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital.

Police said they have a suspect and will be releasing a photo of him soon.

As of Saturday, Ocala police were waiting for a search warrant to look for clues inside the house. Johnson wanted to get back together, but she did not, Ballard said.

Colleen Wade told the Ocala Star-banner that she was shopping inside the store, walking toward the garden area, when she heard a crashing sound. He calmly left the store and rode away, Wade said.

The woman was taken to a local hospital. Witnesses said the woman was arguing with a man and cried out for help before he shot her and fled the scene.
