Gillum campaign issues statement on possibility of a recount

Bill Nelson (D-Fla.). The margin of victory in that race has narrowed to 0.22 percent, which places it in manual recount territory. In Kansas, state Senator Laura Kelly defeated Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who was a key architect of the GOP's voter suppression efforts nationwide.

While Nelson never conceded defeat to Scott, Gillum had initially conceded the governor's race. MA and CT will also send black women to Congress as firsts for their states.

In Gillum's concession speech, he spoke about calling DeSantis and congratulating him on the win. "Let's bring this home", he said, echoing Gillum's campaign refrain.

The DeSantis-Gillum campaign was among the most closely watched in the country this midterm election season.

Polls before the election showed that health care and gun safety were among the most important issues to Democratic voters. We could not be more thankful for the support that was shown by each and every one of you.

Both DeSantis and Kemp had strong support from Trump, who traveled to their states in the closing days of the campaigns to energize Republicans at "Make America Great Again" rallies. "He came down here and fired up our voters, and it looks like we're poised for victory", U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, a Fort Walton Beach Republican, told The News Service of Florida on Tuesday night.

"The supervisor of elections always seem to be the two that we have problems with".

"I believe that everybody should have the right to vote their values, and vote their conscience regardless of the party", Winfrey said when endorsing Abrams for governor.

China leads the way as world's billionaires get even richer
Assets increased 19 percent, while the number of billionaires only rose 4 percent to 414. The U.S. added 53 billionaires a year ago , a 4% increase, bringing the total to 585.

Florida Democrats tried something new and got the same result, losing the sixth straight governor's race, possibly losing all three statewide offices on Tuesday's ballot and winding up with a Senate race that's too close to call.

The win maintained the grip Republicans have had on the governor's office since Jeb Bush was sworn in in 1999, and DeSantis will have a chance to return the favor for Trump in 2020, when Florida figures to play a pivotal role in the presidential election.

As his first order of business, DeSantis said he's sticking with one of his main campaign promises, and that is clean water - fighting toxic algae, red tide, and restoring the Everglades.

"I would like to thank the president for standing by me when it wasn't necessarily the smart thing to do", he said.

Racial divisions were highlighted throughout the campaign. Endorsed by socialist Bernie Sanders, Gillum wants to raise the Florida corporate tax rate and minimum wage, and he has made exorbitant promises to raise teacher salaries and expand Medicaid in Florida.

DeSantis also criticized Gillum for signing a pledge for the civil rights group Dream Defenders.

Gillum told supporters in Wakulla that Tuesday is a choice between the "Trumpizing of America" and working together. Trump tweeted last week. "So ignore him and vote, Florida!" That ethics probe recently revealed that he'd accepted tickets to the Broadway musical "Hamilton" from the undercover Federal Bureau of Investigation agent in 2016.
