Humanity under threat from antibiotic-resistant infections

Pfizer Pakistan recognition of World Antibiotic Awareness Week (WAAW), 12-18 November 2018, reaffirms its commitment to working with industry partners and policymakers to help prevent and combat the global public health threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

The World Health Organization (WHO) warned of the unsafe increase in antibiotic consumption in some countries, but also of low use in other regions, which can lead to the emergence of deadly antibiotic-resistant bacteria, commonly dubbed superbugs.

Mr Agyeman-Manu said the major cause of resistance had been attributed to irresponsible use including incorrect medical indications, inappropriate self-medication, non-adherence to therapy, over-the-counter sale of antibiotics from unlicensed pharmacies and unapproved outlets and inappropriate use in animals across all sectors.

"Access" category represents more than 50% of antibiotic consumption. Therefore, when microbes develop drug resistance in animals, they can easily go on to affect humans, making it hard to treat diseases and infections.

Understand that it is possible to pass on antibiotic-resistant bacteria to others - friends, family and other people in the community.

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria are here.

We will have a video game called "the antibiotic arms race " on the amnesty stands to illustrate the phenomenon of resistance and we will be writing to all schools in Hammersmith, Acton and Chiswick to invite them to use one of our lesson packs on hand hygiene or on the evolution and resistance of bacteria.

Never pressure your healthcare provider for an antibiotic prescription.

Farmers and food producers can help by giving antibiotics to animals only to control or treat infectious diseases and phase out the routine use of antibiotics to promote growth.

"However, as part of this year's World Antibiotic Awareness Week, new research* from NPS MedicineWise indicates Australians" knowledge of the problem of antibiotic resistance is improving.

Anti-microbial resistance occurs when bacteria are no longer affected by the antibiotics they were previously susceptible to or when micro-organisms such as bacteria, viruses and some parasites stop the antimicrobials from working against them. In a report from the National Institute for Animal Agriculture and Merck Animal Health, longtime beef veterinarian and professor Dr.

"Overuse and misuse of antibiotics are the leading causes of antimicrobial resistance".

The publication was timed to coincide with World Antibiotic Awareness Week.

The organisation's Global Antimicrobial Surveillance System unveiled earlier this year spoke of the widespread occurrence of antibiotic resistance.

"Human, animal and environment health are all equally responsible for the correct use of antimicrobials and to avert the threat of antimicrobial resistance", said Dr Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe.

"Africa lacks data on the scope and scale of antibiotic resistance".

Another example of continuous improving regarding antibiotics is the Checkoff research that USA pig farmers have funded, which totals $6.5 million since 2000.

"Antibiotics are one of the great advancements in medicine in the world".

"Governments, funding agencies and the private sector need to invest and work together to secure safe, effective medicines for generations to come".
