YouTube added free, ad-supported 100 Hollywood movies

As AdAge reports, YouTube made a decision to introduce free, ad-supported movie streams because it's what users want, with Rohit Dhawan, director of product management at YouTube, stating "We saw this opportunity based on user demand, beyond just offering paid movies". The ads that YouTube shows in the film come from its normal advertising mix.
These free, feature-length movies are offered in the Movies section of YouTube and have been there since October.

The world's largest streaming video platform is now offering legitimate versions of almost 100 films to audiences for free - movies like The Terminator, Legally Blonde, the first five Rocky films, and Hackers.
The company is reportedly open to having sponsorships or exclusive screenings to show movies through its platform. The list of movies on offer is comparatively small and ranges broadly (All Dogs go to Heaven and The Pink Panther are on here, but so are Agent Cody Banks and, well, Bio-Dome.) But the no-strings accessibility adds a layer of strategy to YouTube's competitive play against Netflix, Amazon, and other services that operate only on a for-pay basis.
But YouTube's new service isn't the first of its kind. Companies are looking for new ways to get their products in front of consumers as fewer and fewer people watch commercials during normal TV thanks to DVR.
