Packers fire Mike McCarthy after stunning loss

McCarthy's near 13-year tenure as Packers head coach came to an end following his side's disappointing 20-17 loss to the struggling Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

That leaves the team 4-7-1 this season. As a result, I made the hard decision to relieve Mike McCarthy of his role as head coach, effective immediately.

The Browns have to be intrigued about the latest firing in National Football League circles, as earlier today the Packers announced they have parted ways with longtime head coach Mike McCarthy.

Poor weather - a mix of snow and rain throughout - also contributed to both the Cardinals and Packers struggling offensively at times, but this should have been an advantage for Green Bay.

After the game, but before the Packers fired McCarthy, the Cardinals were joking and yelling in the visitor's locker room as if they didn't believe what had just happened.

To only win one Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers might seem like a sin, but you have to remember, the team only won one Super Bowl with Brett Favre as quarterback and there were four coaches over that stretch, including McCarthy. After Sunday, that won't be the case anymore. McCarthy had been in charge of the Packers since 2006. "We haven't played very well", he said. We've had a number of opportunities.

Ideally, all of this week's games would be played in stadiums with a roof, but we'll have to settle for three (Rams-Lions, Ravens-Falcons, and Browns-Texans).

"I hate to repeat myself, but it's applicable". We're going to do what we always do: We're going to represent the Packers the right way. "I was just trying to get in the end zone, trying to change the game". Is players' health not being vetted properly before they join the team?

This year, Rodgers hurt his left knee in the season opener, though he is feeling better now.

As for McCarthy, we don't know what the immediate future will hold. And now that the team has been eliminated from playoff contention in embarrassing fashion, it won't be a surprise if McCarthy is fired on Monday as a result. Since 2000, they've had two coaches, Mike Sherman and McCarthy.
