Stone, who has a decades-long relationship with the president, was arrested by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents with their guns drawn in a pre-dawn raid on his Fort Lauderdale home Friday.
Law enforcement shined a flashlight into Stone's front door before one officer rapped against it, shouting, "FBI".
Stone has publicly condemned the Mueller investigation and echoed the president's descriptions of it as a witch hunt, but he has long attracted investigators' attention, especially in light of a 2016 tweet that appeared to presage knowledge that emails stolen from Mr Podesta would soon be released. "Who alerted CNN to be there?" he wrote.
We already know the White House play here.
Roger Stone appeared outside court following his indictment - watch a video of this moment in the player above. If any of them previously lied to Congress or to FBI investigators, they'll be looking over their shoulder for a while.
Mueller's indictment alleges that after the House, Senate, and Special Counsel's office began investigating possible links between the Trump campaign and Russia, Stone took steps to hide his involvement with WikiLeaks, including through threats to radio show host Randy Credico, who was allegedly acting as an intermediary between Stone and WikiLeaks.

However, there's a fantastic irony in Lohan being the ringleader of this show's fabricated, bottle-service circus. She is at her nightclub almost every single night and has really pulled it together for this show.
The witness tampering charge includes the content of text messages and other communications between and Stone and Credico, who hosted Assange on his show in 2016.

After Wikileaks released its second batch of emails, Stone bragged to "senior Trump Campaign officials" that he had correctly predicted the data dump, according to the indictment.
During an appearance Wednesday night on Fox News' "Tucker Carlson Tonight", Stone insisted he would not turn on the president and cooperate with prosecutors, like former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen. Thus this rough treatment - at least compared to the average white-collar criminal; he wasn't beaten senseless or shot outright - gives every sign of being an attempt to coerce Stone into rolling on Trump and anyone else who was involved. He also recalled one of his best-known mantras: "As I have always said, the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about".
Although he did not join the Reagan administration, Stone remained a key player in politics. "Did the president direct someone to contact Roger Stone?". However, it was his time inside the Trump campaign that Mueller and congressional investigators have focused on. It has expanded to probe financial crimes of Trump associates before the election, conversations Trump's national security adviser had with the Russians during the transition and whether Trump obstructed justice with his comments and actions related to the probe.
