Or at least it will once you combine it with a new pair of Touch controllers, as these have also been redesigned for the Rift S to accommodate even more sensors to make that room-scale VR possible without having to resort to external ones. The current Oculus Rift will no longer be manufactured and the company believes the existing stock will soon be sold out. But today, we're getting a look at what Oculus' second-generation Rift device will offer, and it's a significant improvement over its predecessor.
Oculus has pulled back the curtain on the Oculus Rift S, a brand new PC VR headset that "combines the convenience of built-in Oculus Insight tracking tech with the full power of your PC". The Rift S was developed in partnership with Lenovo, which receives substantial billing on the new hardware. Highlights of the upcoming Oculus Rift S, which requires a tethered PC for processing power, include its higher resolutions screens, and its inside-out tracking. As a comparison, the display on the original Rift headset has a resolution of 1080 x 1200 per eye.
Oculus has released other virtual reality headsets since the original Oculus Rift launched to consumers in January 2016, but now we have its true successor.
Hypocrisy, privilege and bribes: Celebrities caught in college admissions fraud scandal
He is accused of paying $200,000 to have someone else take his two sons' SATs in order to help get them into elite colleges. It was no accident that none were immediately charged, US Attorney Andrew Lelling of MA said Tuesday.
Oculus starts off its announcement by confirming that the Rift S will use the Oculus platform - hardly a surprise, but it does mean that it'll have an extensive library of games and apps on launch day. The trade-off here, however, is in refresh rate which drops from 90Hz down to 80Hz, although you do get a slightly larger field of view.
Statistics suggest that Sony's VR headset has the dominant market share with about 43% of all headsets bought to work with the PlayStation 4 console. The all-black headset now adorns a Lenovo logo on the side, as the company helped Oculus optimize the device's comfort and weight distribution. It also means there will still be software updates for the older headset. It also supports plugging your own headphones into the headset, rather than needing to use the integrated headphones. Will you be swayed by the Rift S? .
