He said two masked men shouted racial and anti-gay slurs, poured bleach on him, beat him and tied a rope around his neck.
Jussie Smollett's attorney Tina Glandian claimed "whiteface" may have been used to disguise the identities of the Osundairo brothers.
Actor Jussie Smollett faces reporters before leaving Cook County Court after charges against him were dropped Tuesday. Even while going on national television and claiming that evidence is clear, Smollett could be proven guilty in a court of law.
The President took to Twitter weigh in on Chicago prosecutors' decision to drop all charges against Jussie Smollett, calling the case "an embarrassment to our Nation" and suggesting that it would be reviewed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and DOJ.
In an early morning tweet announcing the review, Trump said the case had embarrassed the nation. But after Abel and Ola Osundairo told police that Smollett paid them to stage a hate crime, his legal team have suggested the attack was real and the brothers were his actual attackers.
But since then Chicago police and the city's mayor, Rahm Emanuel, have been publicly very critical of the actor. Do I think justice was served? No. They do not appear to offer many major revelations about what investigators allege was Smollett's hoax. He said his faith and community would not make him want to commit these alleged crimes.

The lawyers went to criticise the Cook County State's Attorney's Office for "flip-flopping" its position on the case "several times in the past 24 hours".
Trump's comments on Smollett's case comes ahead of a 2020 re-election battle as he tries to capitalize on another issue to animate his base.
"Ultimately, the Chicago police investigation revealed that you knowingly filed a false police report and had in fact orchestrated your own attack", the letter from the city stated.
She said Smollett, who is black and gay, had hired one brother as a personal trainer but had no idea who attacked him along a Chicago street until the brothers were later identified by police.
Foxx said she recused herself from the investigation because of her contacts with Tchen and the Smollett family member. His attorneys asked that the case records be sealed, which was granted due to an IL statute that allows for it, Magats said.
Emanuel described it as a "whitewash of justice" that sends a message that people with power and influence are held to a different standard.
Smollett faced 16 felony disorderly conduct charges.
