Winter storm to bring rain, ice, snow and wind this weekend

The city reported snowplows will start their work at 5 a.m. Sunday, March 10, and plow the entire city.

The temperature on Saturday afternoon hit the mid-40s, around the normal high of 47 for this time of year, according to weather service climate data from Lehigh Valley International Airport.

There are no guarantees, but this could be winter's last gasp, with two storm systems heading our way and bringing just a bit of snow to parts of New Jersey this weekend before a decent warmup gets under way next week. Very strong winds are also likely Saturday afternoon as northwest winds pick up into the 20 to 30mph range, along with gusts as high as 45mph.

There may be some sliding and blowing around taking place in the region Saturday night and Sunday.

Monday, snowplows will begin at 7 a.m. and do cleanup where cars were parked on the previous passes on east-west streets and haul snow from the downtown district.

Plan on slippery road conditions and limited visibility. Don't forget to set your clocks forward an hour.

A winter storm warning is in effect for much of central, southern and western Minnesota, including the Twin Cities, as well as several counties in western Wisconsin. For the metro area, temperatures will be above freezing all day, so we will see rain.

The rain and wind are associated with a Colorado Low that will track through Northeastern Ontario on Sunday.

A patchy coating to 1 inch or so is possible before the changeover over southeast Mass. into Boston.

Freezing rain continues to spread eastward early this morning.

The weather is expected to take a turn for the worst today with blustery conditions widely and some hill snow in Scotland, northern England and Wales.
