Doctors treating a Taiwanese woman for a swollen eye were shocked to find four tiny bees living under her left eyelid.
Ms. He was visiting a loved one's grave during the annual Chinese Qing Ming tomb-sweeping festival when the wind blew dirt into her eye. The woman, identified by her family name of He, thought it was only dirt that got caught in her eye and tried to wash it out with water, but the severe pain continued through the night. "Tears wouldn't stop coming out of my eye", she said.
The diminutive insects, known as "sweat bees" due to their predilection for human perspiration, were miraculously pulled from Ms He's eyes alive. They mostly nest near graves and in fallen trees.
"She was wearing contact lenses so she didn't dare to rub her eyes in case she broke the lens", said Hong. Four. Bees. In her eye. "If she did she could have induced the bees to produce venom ... she could have gone blind".

CNBC added, "White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says, adding that President Donald Trump "has selected James M. A senior administration official said Trump asked for Nielsen's resignation when the two met at the White House on Sunday.
"This is the first time in Taiwan we've seen something like this", he added.
Matan Shelomi, an associate professor of entomology at National Taiwan University, told The Washington Post that he had never heard of sweat bees infesting a person before the recent incident. "They were in the wrong place at the wrong time".
"They don't seem to be bothered by people, so they will go to any source of salt", Shelomi said.
He was discharged and is expected to make a full recovery, KRON-TV reported. "This is not something that people need to concern themselves with". The film saw its antagonist lynched, slathered in honey, and stung to death - one of the few bee-related deaths in film (we can't forget Wicker Man) and the only one to result in a ghost this angry.
"They are still alive, they've been sent as specimens to another organisation and will be studied", said Dr Hong.
