China to join FAA's review panel on Boeing's 737 MAX

Still, Boeing is ahead of its European rival Airbus, which last week said it had won 62 gross orders during the first three months of 2019, but some 120 cancellations left it with a negative net order.

Muscat: The Sultanate's national carrier Oman Air has cancelled 30 flights that were scheduled to take off on April 9 and April 10, 2019, following Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) directives on suspending operations of Boeing 737 MAX.

Smaller rival Southwest Airlines Co. was the first US airline to formally cut its financial outlook for the year after being forced to pull its new fleet of 34 Boeing 737 MAX planes out of service. There were no new Max orders in March, the company said.

Boeing announced Friday that it's cutting production by 20% as it tries to find a software fix to get the planes flying again.

Though the market is less sure of Spirit AeroSystems' future, the maker of shipsets for the MAX 8 released a statement Friday confirming it would continue deliveries at the 52 planes-per-month pace, but will store them at Spirit facilities.

A brand new Lion Air Boeing 737 MAX crashed in Indonesia just months before the Ethiopian Airlines crash, and investigators say the two incidents are very similar, raising concerns about the MCAS software used in the aircraft.

Boeing has acknowledged that in each crash, a faulty sensor triggered an anti-stall system when it wasn't needed, pushing the plane's nose down.

Also on Tuedsday, American Airlines trimmed its first-quarter forecast for unit revenue as it cancelled hundreds of flights during the period, mainly due to the groundings of its 24 Max planes, according to Reuters.

Over the weekend, American removed the plane from its schedule through June 5 - six weeks longer than before - underlining the realization among airlines that the Max will be parked longer than previously expected.

Boeing's shares were down 1.4 per cent at $369.50 in afternoon trading.
