Van Dijk and Sterling were joined by Sadio Mane, Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva and Eden Hazard on the list of nominees last week. While last season, it was Mo Salah's electric displays that brought the award to Merseyside, Van Dijk's assured presence in the Liverpool defence was deemed worthy of the award this time around.
