Virginia Beats Texas Tech To Win The National Championship

The NCAA Tournament will take an ugly turn in its final or, depending on your perspective, be a masterpiece in defensive basketball.

History was guaranteed at the NCAA men's basketball championship on Monday, with the Virginia Cavaliers and Texas Tech Red Raiders making their debuts in the national final. The over-under is set at 118 points. The over/under on bruises may be higher.

Still trying to process the title, junior guard Jerome said, "Forget past year, this is everything you dream of since you're a little kid". "I love it. It's great defense".

Basketball is fun, but have you ever thrown a tortilla? "If you're really into the game, you get it".

Overtime provided only a fraction of those final 6 minutes of regulation, with Texas Tech taking a three-point lead that would be overtaken by the Cavaliers and never returned.

Texas Tech could become the first team since CT in 1999 to win a title the same year of its first Final Four. That's right, Magic Johnson vs. Larry Bird.

"We needed a stop to win the game", Odiase said. The Cavaliers survived Carsen Edwards in the Elite 8. The sophomore made the game-tying 3 with 12.1 seconds left in regulation, then made another with just over two minutes left in the extra period to give the Cavs the lead for good. Virginia led by eight, a monster lead given its soul-snatching defense and time-sucking offense. Instead, he was signalling for timeout when Hunter's pass sailed out of bounds with 1 second remaining, giving Texas Tech one last chance to head home to Lubbock with snipped nets and a trophy in tow.

The new look doesn't appear to have any real connection to a Hannah Montana comeback or anything. And as you might expect... fans went insane seeing her do it!

The Red Raiders (31-7) were able to hang around thanks to 13 points off the bench - and 7-of-13 shooting to end the half.

Mahomes' presence on the stadium videoboards got Texas Tech's fans in a frenzy twice, and the Red Raiders emerged from those timeouts with big scoring runs.

The result will give the NCAA Tournament its first first-time champion since coach Billy Donovan won it all with Florida in 2006.

Now that, Virginia, is the way to close out a season.

The questions kept coming at Kyle Guy as he tried to make his way through a clogged court to join his Virginia teammates celebrating the program's first national championship. Jerome was the catalyst early against the Tigers and finished with 21 points. Virginia squandered a 10-point lead down the stretch, Auburn took a 61-57 lead with 17 seconds left and the Cavs looked cooked. Texas Tech's Matt Mooney and Culver, with 15 points and 9 rebounds were also included.

Number three seeded Texas Tech was seeking its first title in school history and to become the first team since the 1999 University of CT to go undefeated in its first appearance in the final four.
