USA, Thailand break Women's World Cup records

She scored two goals against an overmatched Thailand side last week, but Thursday's performance in a 2-0 win over Sweden was even better, despite her not getting on the scoresheet.

They have not been severely tested, but with all of the contenders securing passage, the road is going to get rougher.

Spain faces the top-ranked US team Monday (10 a.m., FS1) in Reims, marking the first time La Roja will appear in the knockout round at the World Cup. A victory would send them to Paris and a potential showdown against France. Yes I did just say 13-0, you read that correctly. Sweden will be looking for a chance to counter-attack against the United States throughout this game. After a rain delay, Sweden scored twice late to earn a 2-0 victory over Chile. Coach Jill Ellis and her squad have repeatedly demurred any notion that the USA would try anything but its best, even if that means an early encounter against Les Bleues.

Horan played the full 90 + minutes of the game and her energy, leadership, and RAW DETERMINATION on the pitch was incredible. Lindsey Horan tucked in the ball from close range from a Megan Rapinoe corner which was too hot for Sweedish keeper Hedvig Lindahl to get a handle of.

The 26-year-old's form gives US manager Jill Ellis the proverbial problem that every coach wants to have. Never before had it blanked every group opponent.

"We ended on a good note, and we're excited about that, but we have to put it behind us and onto the next", midfielder Rose Lavelle said.

For athleticism, for speed, for attacking prowess the U.S. is without equal at this Women's World Cup.

"We talked more than ever about the starting XI both with the medical team, coaches, players etc".

Pakistan fan trolled on social media after loss to Oz
His praise for Amir, who was not initially included in Pakistan's World Cup squad, did not end there. Pakistan have never beaten India in six World Cup matches dating back to 1992.

Told of Gerhardsson's comments, Ellis said with a grin, "After the game, that might be a fair comment".

"I've played with Alyssa since I was like 16 so I've known her for a really long time". "We know what tools we have and what we need in order to break teams down and be successful in the final third".

She added: "Alex took a knock in the first half and I think it was more being smart about it, and similar to Julie who took a hip contusion".

She replaced Alex Morgan, who was involved in a couple of collisions in the first half and at one point held her right knee.

With progress also assured Sweden made seven changes to the team which beat Thailand in its last outing. The Swedes rested many players in their match against the United States, with an eye toward the next round.

The Americans, though, crackled from the start.

"She just offers something something elevated in that position", defender Becky Saurbrunn said. With Ertz absent, Ellis went deeper into the binder. Naeher had a few busy moments, and her back line was sound under pressure. They would take the record outright in the second half, Tobin Heath drifting into space at the far post and leathering in a shot from a tight angle. Carli Lloyd has tallied three goals so far in World Cup play, and Sam Mewis has scored a pair. That a Jonna Andersson own goal was the only addition to the scoreline will probably be an irritation to a team from which much is expected. After a two-minute delay, the goal was certified. Between then and now it appeared in just one World Cup, a group-stage flameout in 1999, but now it's in the knockout round, a group victor and now a favorite over China, no less. It also was the first time this year that Canada had surrendered more than one goal in a game.
