Twitter reacts to USWNT's second straight championship

The team won their second straight World Cup title on Sunday, beating the Netherlands 2-0 in Lyon, France. Martens played only the first half before being subbed out but hopes to play the full game Sunday with a few more days of rest. She scored on an early free kick and again in the second half in a quarterfinal victory over France.

Albuquerque Academy boys soccer coach Laney Kolek and La Cueva High athletic director LeeAnn Moores both spent time in France watching the US women in action last month.

She was named to the all-ACC team and helped the Tar Heels - also featuring USA legends such as Mia Hamm and Kristine Lilly - to a 24-0-1 record and the seventh of their 21 national titles.

US head coach Jill Ellis said her team was built for these pressure-packed moments and were going to be able to handle it. Ellis was right but it did not come without protest from the Dutch.

It had however taken Trump more than an hour to remark on the result, a delay noted by many of his critics, particularly in light of controversy earlier in the tournament when the United States co-captain Megan Rapinoe, a goalscorer in Lyon, said she would not visit the White House if the team won the title and were invited.

"There are two other finals going on but this is the World Cup final, this is like, cancel-everything day", said the outspoken 34-year-old midfielder. "She's an incredible player", Heath said. But that same year the Men's World Cup earned a whopping $4 billion, according to NBC Sports. Ellis said no one has been ruled out.

"Did you have any doubt that they would lose?" This is a very, very close group, and I think that's been a big part of what's empowered them to this point.

"So I think in a lot of ways, this team has been kind of, I guess you could call it synchro-destiny with this fight for equal pay and I think it's our responsibility and it's something that we love to do".

The teams both have female coaches, with Ellis guiding the United States and Sarina Wiegman in charge of the Netherlands.

The most recent meeting between the teams was in September 2016. It's the first time since 2003 that two women have coached in the World Cup final.

Thank you. You must be stuck like glue on this, but, you know, you've played in three World Cups, including one of the wins for the US team in 1999.

Overall, the US haven't lost a match since losing to France, 3-1, in an global friendly in January.

For instance, in 2010 the Women's World Cup brought in $73 million in revenue.

"I'm not saying that the prize money should be $440m this time or next time around". "If you really care about each game in the same way, are you letting the gap grow? No".

The Dutch had only conceded three goals in the entire tournament coming into the final.

Megan Rapinoe: "You can't win a championship without gays".

In this tournament, the Netherlands has allowed just one goal in the knockout rounds, shutting out Italy and Sweden in back-to-back matches to get to the Final.
